Holmes County
Press Release
March 07, 2017
Holmes County Sales Tax Increase April 01, 2017
Vendors Need to Note Upcoming Change
Holmes County voters approved a countywide sales tax increase to support improvements to the local infrastructure. The approved 0.25 percent sales tax increase will increase county collections from 6.75 to 7 percent. Of the tax, 5.75 percent goes to the state and 1 percent goes to the county general fund. The entire 0.25 percent increase will generate an estimated $1.6 million annually, earmarked exclusively for the resurfacing of the county highway system.
The new 0.25 percent sales tax for the roads will start to be collected on April 01, 2017. Funding will not be available to the County Engineer from the new sales tax revenue until July 2017.
Holmes County vendors will need to take the proper steps to have cash registers re-programmed for the April 01, 2017 change. If vendors need a new sales tax chart, please call the Holmes County Auditor’s Office at 330-674-1896. There will be no notification sent from the Ohio Department of Taxation. Vendors can request email notification of sales tax changes on the Ohio Department of Taxation website.
